And I am back with another tag! This is the Never Have I Ever tag’s writer’s version – I did the bookish tag too, you can see it here if you like. I had seen this tag on several blogs and while blog hopping I found that this was created by Bree @ The Long Voyage. It seems really fun, so let’s get into it!

never have I ever…

πŸ”Έ STARTED A NOVEL THAT I DIDN’T FINISH

Possibly 98% of all the things I ever started writing? To date I’ve only finished three stories – and one is so horrendous I’m ashamed I even included it hereπŸ˜‘

πŸ”Έ WRITTEN A STORY COMPLETELY BY HAND

Nope. I’ve written short stories but not my WIPs. It’s so hard to write while typing is just so easy…I’ll type, thank you very much.

πŸ”Έ CHANGED TENSES MIDWAY THROUGH A STORY

Guilty. I’d start a story third person past tense and then I’d think it would be cooler to have it first person present tense…and about halfway through I’d realise that I’d been writing first person past tense the whole time.

πŸ”Έ NOT RESEARCHED ANYTHING BEFORE STARTING A STORY

Haha all the time. The thing is, when I do research, I fall into a rabbit hole of internet click after click and I’d never get around to writing my story.

πŸ”Έ CHANGED MY PROTAGONIST’S NAME HALFWAY THROUGH A DRAFT

I’ve done this so many times. The most recent example is me naming a male character Morag because the name sounded nice in my head, only to find out a few months later that Morag is an actual female Irish(?) name! So now it’s Miron (which always gets auto corrected to Moron it’s annoying)

πŸ”Έ WRITTEN A STORY IN A MONTH OR LESS

Never. I’m always in awe of people who can do this.

πŸ”Έ FALLEN ASLEEP WHILE WRITING

No. The only time I fall asleep while doing something is when I’m treating it like a tedious job (hello studying) and I don’t have a habit of sleeping while I’m using the computer.

πŸ”Έ CORRECTED SOMEONE’S GRAMMAR IRL/ONLINE

Grammar mistakes usually fly over my head. But I’ve solved some technical issues with my little sister’s writing, like that one time she named a character Hilary Sperm and I had to explain her why she couldn’t use it as a name (I was maybe twelve or thirteen and it was so awkward lmao)

πŸ”Έ YELLED IN ALL CAPS AT MYSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF A NOVEL

Lol no. I’ve laughed out loud though because some of the scenarios I’ve created were too funny.

πŸ”Έ USED “I’M WRITING” AS AN EXCUSE

I’m definitely not watching YouTube videos or playing Buzzfeed quizzes, I’m writing can’t you see?

πŸ”Έ KILLED A CHARACTER BASED ON SOMEONE I KNOW IN REAL LIFE

I don’t base characters on people I know in real life. It would be too awkward I guess?

πŸ”Έ USED POP CULTURE REFERENCES IN A STORY

I am regrettably behind concerning anything pop culture. Plus most of my stories are fantasy/dystopias so pop culture doesn’t apply.

πŸ”Έ WRITTEN BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 1 AM AND 6 AM

Um no my parents would raise a racket if they found me in front of the computer that long. And I like to sleep early.

πŸ”Έ DRANK AN ENTIRE POT OF COFFEE WHILE WRITING

I hate coffee. And I also hate tea. I just can’t stand them.

πŸ”Έ WRITTEN DOWN DREAMS TO USE IN POTENTIAL NOVELS

All the time. I think I did this about two days ago as well.

πŸ”Έ PUBLISHED AN UNEDITED STORY ON THE INTERNET/BLOG/WATTPAD

Haha yes. In my old blog back when I had zero traffic there. I deleted it at once when people started visiting, but it does give a sense of fulfilment to have a story ‘out in the internet’.

πŸ”Έ FORGOTTEN TO SAVE MY WORK/DRAFT

This happened to me once and I proceeded to scream down everyone’s ears for half an hour before I calmed down and did the logical thing: writing it all again.

πŸ”Έ TYPED SO LONG THAT MY WRISTS HURT

More than my wrists it’s my back that hurt for slouching too long in front of the laptop.

πŸ”Έ SPILLED A DRINK ON MY LAPTOP WHILE WRITING

Thankfully it was only water. And it didn’t get inside the keys.

πŸ”Έ FINISHED A NOVEL

Only three times. But they were so short and with lots of logic inconsistencies I am not sure if they count.

πŸ”Έ LAUGHED LIKE AN EVIL VILLAIN WHILE WRITING A SCENE

Nope.

πŸ”Έ CRIED WHILE WRITING A SCENE

Again no. I rarely cry when I read or watch movies, I don’t think it’ll ever happen while I’m writing.

πŸ”Έ CREATED MAPS OF MY FICTIONAL WORLDS

Yes I have, a several in fact. I find it much more easier to imagine stuff in fantasy worlds with a map in my head!

πŸ”Έ RESEARCHED SOMETHING SHADY FOR A NOVEL

You mean poisons, swords, stabbing, murder, bribery, arson, secret societies in the history of the world? And also I found a very chilling website which had nothing but the last words of Texas death row inmates😢

I tag…

You! Every person here who loves to write and create fictional worlds, consider yourself tagged for this!

Do you write? Have you ever forgotten to save your work? What’s your favourite thing about writing?

  1. These were so relatable! I write on google docs, so I don’t have to save my work it just auto-saves, buuut if it didn’t, that would be so annoying!

  2. Oh my gosh, I felt like such an evil person reading these – I’ve definitely done more than half of these things πŸ˜‚ The shady research in particular might be enough to convict me – I’ve researched quite a few torture methods and how guns work for one particular novel…
Also, I can’t stop laughing about Moron and Hilary Sperm, so thanks for including those tidbits 🀣🀣🀣

  3. I relate to almost everything here
And I curse myself evert time I lose my work and still do itπŸ˜‚πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
And I have changed the names as wellπŸ˜…
    Great post!

  4. Oh same, when I first started writing I just published the unfinished and unedited drafts on my blog.😬
Thankfully I don’t do that anymore and if I were to post a story I usually edit it.
Also that’s cool that you made maps for your worlds, I haven’t done that yet, but I really want to. πŸ˜€

  5. Oh my, this is hilarious! I have definitely done most of these…including writing a (probably 30,000 word) story by hand, if you can believe that! I’ve even killed a character based on someone I know in real life *hides*. Buuuuut I’ve never written between 1 and 6 either, nor drunk a whole pot of coffee…I prefer my coffee in extremely small quantities at a time.

    1. thanks! Ooh that’s cool, but I don’t think I’ll ever get enough patience to do thatπŸ˜… don’t have to hide haha. I don’t get the people who drink so much coffee in one sitting – how do they do it?

  6. I don’t like coffee or tea either! Though I kind of wish that I at least liked tea because I like the idea of liking it, I just…don’t.
I feel the same way about my “novels”! I’m not sure if they count. They are basically first drafts- or draft-and-a-halfs (that’s a thing, right?), and need A LOT of work. But still, they are novel-shaped if you squint at them.
Also HOW do people write so quickly?? Those folks who write a book in a month are a complete mystery to me.
I write down dreams as potential stories too! Though not as often as I used to. What’s sad (and also humorous) is when I first wake up and think that a dream has SO MUCH POTENTIAL and then a bit later after I read over it again…it’s just not that great.
    Great post!

    1. I feel the same way!!
I know, almost all of my novels are half-done first draft, but I’m really happy that I do have a finished second draft – not that it’s any better from the first one lol. I know, dreams are like that. But some of my dreams are so weird I write them down anyway
      Thanks!!!

  8. This is such a fun tag, I might do it sometime soon! Amazing post, Jan!! I’ve changed character names halfway into the story so many times. And I HATE coffee too. ooh, I write down dreams for story ideas too (at least every time I manage to remember the dream for more than 5 mins after opening my eyes)
    Loved reading your answers!
